Product photography that actually sells

Product photography setup

Every pixel in a product image is doing sales work. Lighting, angle, background and retouching are not aesthetic choices — they are conversion decisions.

/ Table of contents:

Hero Shot vs Context Shot

Products need a clean hero on white and at least one context shot showing the product in use. Both serve different moments in the buyer journey.

Light Reveals Texture

Side lighting creates shadow that reveals material texture. Flat front lighting hides what makes premium products premium. Choose your lighting for what you want the customer to feel, not what is easiest to shoot.

Retouching Has a Limit

Over-retouched product images create returns. Customers buy what they see and expect to receive it. Accurate-but-beautiful is the goal.

A great product image tells the customer they can trust you before they read a single word of copy.
