Building a content calendar that actually works

Content calendar planning

A content calendar that lives in a spreadsheet and dies in a drawer solves nothing. The system needs to be built around how a team actually works, not how they imagine they work.

/ Table of contents:

Pillars Before Posts

Define 3–5 content pillars before mapping dates. Every post should trace back to a pillar. If it doesn't, it doesn't go in the calendar.

Platform-Specific Cadence

Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube have different optimal posting frequencies. A single cadence across all platforms wastes resources.

Build in Buffer Weeks

Leave one week per month empty. Campaigns slip, clients revise, trends emerge. Buffer weeks prevent the calendar from collapsing.

Strategy without execution is daydreaming. A good calendar turns strategy into shipping.
